Beachwood canyon
Known worldwide, the famous "Hollywood sign". Officially declared as "Los Angeles Cultural-Historical Monument nr. 1". The 450 feet long sign is visible from all parts of Hollywood. It was erected in 1923 as an advertising for a real estate development in Beachwood canyon. Originally the sign read "Hollywoodland". The last four letters were removed in 1945. In 1932 the young actress "Peg Entwistle" jumped to her death from the Sign's 45 feet letter "H". When the sign was erected it contained thousands of light bulbs. The sign is best seen from Beachwood Drive.
